BENGALS
How the
got to the Super Bowl
By Ariel Velázquez
The Bengals started the season tied with the Jets for the second worst chance of winning the Super Bowl, only above the Jaguars.
Despite their need to strengthen their offensive line, they chose receiver Ja’Marr Chase in the first round of the draft.
They kicked off the season beating the Vikings and Ja’Marr Chase erupted onto the scene with a 50 yard touchdown reception.
In Week 7, they sent out a strong message, beating the Ravens 41-17, with Burrow throwing for 416 yards and three touchdowns.
A week later, they got put in their place, losing to the Jets in New York. Mike White punched a hole in their defense, throwing for over 400 yards.
The Bengals went into their Week 10 bye at 5-4 and sitting in second place in the AFC North.
November 28 saw them sweep the Steelers for the season in an afternoon that saw Joe Mixon run for 165 yards, scoring twice.
The day after Christmas, they swept another division rival, putting up 41 points on the Ravens behind Burrow’s 525 yards…
…it was the fourth most yards in a single game by any quarterback in history.
The Bengals clinched the division with a win over the Chiefs in the second to last game of the regular season.
This season, Burrow came back from an injury and reminded everyone just why he was the first pick overall in the 2020 draft…
…over the season, he completed 70.4% of his passes for 4611 yards and 34 touchdowns, giving up 14 interceptions.
Chase set new records for receiving yards in a single game and in a rookie season, 266 and 1455 respectively.
January 15, they put the curse of Bo Jackson to rest by beating the Raiders, their first home playoff win since 1991.
They beat the first seed Tennessee Titans for their first road playoff victory in franchise history.
The AFC Championship game saw them beat the returning two-time AFC champion Chiefs at Arrowhead.
