CANELO
The lesser-known side of
Canelo Álvarez is a high-profile boxer, who makes millions every time he steps into the ring. But much about him is still not common knowledge.
He is the youngest of eight children, seven of whom are boys, all becoming professional boxers.
He began to train at the age of 10 with his brother Rigoberto, who he gave his gloves from his first fight.
Years later he met his mentor, Chepo Reynoso, who called him Canelito as he had red hair like cinnamon. As he aged he became Canelo.
Canelo was a precocious talent. He made his debut aged 15 and three months.
In June 2008 he and his siblings made history. For the first time, seven brothers fought in the same show.
He was crowned world champion aged 20 years, 7 months, 15 days, the youngest ever at super welterweight
In 2018 he signed the biggest contract in boxing history, which still stands. It earned him $365 million for 11 fights.
Álvarez loves his cars. He owns a Lamborghini Aventador, a Porsche 911 Turbo, a Ferrari 458 and a Bugatti Chiron.
Another of his hobbies is golf. He has been seen at several tournaments and prefers watching it on TV to boxing.
He also has a passion for horses, sharing images on social media of some of his thoroughbreds: Shire, Espartano and Spirit.
On the business side, in July 2021 the Mexican presented 'Canelo Energy', his chain of 100 gas stations in Mexico.
