CHASE GAVI

The Blues are ready to make the 18-year-old one of the PL's top-paid stars

Gavi’s future at Barça is uncertain,  amid a contract row with LaLiga that has seen the Catalan club fail to register him as a first-team player.

As Barça scramble to sort out the  mess, Chelsea are waiting in the  wings - and are ready to take the Spanish international to London.

Sources close to Chelsea’s pursuit of Gavi have told AS that the Premier League club are prepared to hand the 18-year-old a huge contract.

Chelsea met the player’s agent, Iván  de la Peña, three weeks ago in  Madrid. There, they told De la Peña of their eagerness to sign his client.

A second sit-down is expected, with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly in attendance, as the Blues get ready to submit a detailed offer to Gavi’s camp.

Gavi has always spoken of his desire  to stay at the Camp Nou, but his complex contract situation could  end up leading to his departure.

The academy graduate last year  signed a deal that officially upgraded  him to first-team status, but LaLiga blocked it over salary-spending rules.

Barça initially gained an injunction allowing the contract, but a court then sided with LaLiga - so Gavi is back to being listed as an academy player.

If Barça are unable to register the midfielder as a first-team player by 30 June, Gavi can leave the LaLiga leaders on a free transfer in the summer.

And, on top of money, Chelsea are  out to tempt him with an attractive project. They’ve spent big on signings and could hire Luis Enrique as coach.
