SOCCER LOVER?

SWIFT

There has been talk of another major celebrity buying a British soccer club. Per Weekend Sport, pop star Taylor Swift is interested in Notts County.

Founded back in November 1862, the Nottingham outfit has the honour  of being the oldest professional  soccer club in the world.

County currently play in League  Two, the fourth tier of English league soccer, but were a top-flight team  in the pre-Premier League era.

After reports of a Swift takeover emerged, the Magpies responded with a hilariously-worded statement denying they plan to sell to the singer.

Those familiar with Swift’s music quickly realised that the statement contained a number of references  to songs by the American, 33.

Vowing to “shake this story off”, County said there was “no bad blood” with Swift, who couldn’t have believed they'd sell "in her wildest dreams”.

It’s not the first time a well-known figure has been linked with County. In 2019, Spanish former soccer star Gerard Piqué tabled a bid for the club.

However, County were finally  bought by the Reedtz brothers, who cleared the club’s tax debts to stave  off the threat of a winding-up order.

This also isn’t the first time Swift has been in the soccer news. Recently,  fans of the star got involved in voting for the Golden Boy Web award.

With Jude Bellingham and Alejandro Balde the frontrunners, ‘Swifties’  voted for the former en masse after Balde said he didn’t like her music.

It remains to be seen whether Swift will venture into soccer ownership, following in the footsteps of celebrities such as Elton John and Ryan Reynolds.
