KINGS LEAGUE

Piqué-led project is now set  for Kings and Queens Cups

IS BACK!

The opening edition of the 7-a-side Kings League saw XBuyer Team crowned champions, with PIO winning the women’s Queens League.

Now it’s time for the Kings Cup and Queens Cup. Drafts were held ahead  of the competitions, with 60 new players joining the men’s tournament.

Carlos Contreras was the No. 1 pick in the Kings Cup draft. He was snapped up by the team Jijantes, who chose  first after winning the draft lottery.

The draw for the Kings and Queens Cups was also held on Monday. The events start this weekend, with teams initially placed in two groups of six.

The top four in each group advance to the playoffs, with the final held on 14 October at an unconfirmed venue. Málaga is being tipped as the host city.

The Kings Cup and Queens Cup will then be followed by the Kingdom  Cup, a mixed tournament involving  all 24 men’s and women’s teams.

Porcinos, a team run by Spanish social-media star Ibai Llanos, are favourites  to lift the Kings Cup after bolstering their squad in the off-season.

Meanwhile, Kings League chief  Gerard Piqué has taken his successful project abroad, with a North and  South American version coming soon.

The Kings League Americas is due  to start in January, with Mexican  MLS star Javier Hernández set to  be among the team presidents.
