Liverpool have made a transfer-market splash. With Sadio Mané gone, Luis Díaz injured and Darwin Núñez under fire, the Reds have signed Cody Gakpo.

The Netherlands winger, who moves to Anfield from PSV, was one of the revelations of the World Cup. He scored three times in the group stage.

At PSV, Gakpo has racked up 13  goals and 17 assists this season. According to Olocip, he is involved in a goal every 65 minutes.

According to AI calculations, Gakpo has been this season’s outstanding Dutch player. Liverpool have had to fork out €50m for the 23-year-old.

He’s brimming with talent. He’s quick, explosive and agile, and has a venomous shot. His link-up play isn’t the best, but he offers real penetration.

Gakpo is right at home running beyond defenders - he just loves attacking space. The forward also presses hard when out of possession.

He has learned from the best. As a  kid, he’d go to watch PSV superstars such as Patrick Kluivert, Mark van Bommel and Arjen Robben.

PSV coach Ruud van Nistelrooy had a major influence on Gakpo’s rise to prominence, working with him at both youth and first-team level.

Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal  has only positive things to say about him: “He has all the tools to become  a huge star in the future.”

As Liverpool climb up the Premier League table and set their sights on February’s Champions League tie with Real Madrid, Gakpo’s arrival is a statement of the club's intent.
