It was June 26, 1993 when Lorena Bobbitt cut her husband’s penis off and threw it in a field, capturing headlines nationwide.

Lorena was an immigrant from Ecuador and John served in the marine corps. The couple married in 1989.

This is not the story of a woman scorned, but one who suffered so much physical, mental, and sexual abuse that she was driven to do the unthinkable.

On that fateful day in June, John had come home drunk and raped Lorena - an action he would very soon regret.

Lorena went into the kitchen for water, saw the knife on the counter, and snapped. Years of suffering clouded her vision.

She went back into the bedroom where her husband was passed out, and sliced his penis off in one quick cut.

She then drove away with the bloody penis still in her hand, threw it out of her car window into a field, and called the police and confessed.

Medics were able to reattach John’s penis and return it to nearly full functionality. The trial began soon after.

In the 90s, marital rape was a new concept in the US, and in Virginia, it was difficult to prove.

John was acquitted of sexual assault and Lorena was found not guilty due to temporary insanity, caused by the trauma he inflicted upon her.

A few years later, John got a penis enlargement , starred in porns with titles like “Frankenpenis”, and was later charged with battery.

Lorena Gallo continues living in Manassas and founded an organization called Lorena’s Red Wagon, which helps prevent domestic violence.
