Wins his 14th  Roland Garros

NADAL

RAFA

Rafa Nadal beat Casper Ruud in three sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-0) to win Roland Garros for the 14th time. He's never lost a final in Paris.

His rival in the final was Norwegian Casper Ruud, number 8 in the world. He had never faced Nadal before and was a member at his Balaeric Academy.

With this title, Nadal has 112 wins at Roland Garros and just 3 losses. His 22nd Grand Slam title puts him ahead of Djokovic and Federer, who have 20.

Nadal arrived at the final with several doubts about his performance due to a chronic injury in his left foot.

He was unable to compete for 5 months before his epic victory at the Australian Open which made him the player with the most Grand Slams (21).

He then went on to win Acapulco and reached the Indian Wells final. He played with a cracked rib. He lost after starting 2022 with 20 wins in a row.

He couldn't play in Miami nor start the clay season in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. He barely made it to Madrid, where he lost in the quarterfinals to Alcaraz.

In Rome, he fell in the third round, almost unable to play due to his foot injury. With 10 days until Roland Garros, all the alarms went off.

However, he arrived in Paris optimistic:  "Things that seem impossible in sports today, stop seeming so after a few days."

He took out Thompson, Moutet, and Van de Zandschulp in the first three rounds. The foot pain did not prevent him from playing his best game.

He struggled to beat Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16 in five sets and said that “Tuesday (against Djokovic) could be my last match at Roland Garros." my last match at Roland Garros.”

The tournament was proving to be a crossroads for the man from Manacor, but in another memorable match, he beat defending champion Djokovic in four sets.

After the victory, he said of his injury: "We will talk after the tournament and you will understand everything." Speculation began about his retirement.

Nadal turned 36 on the day of his bittersweet victory in the semifinals. Zverev had to withdraw in the second set after spraining his right ankle.

“I would prefer to lose the final without a doubt," Nadal said after the semifinal. "In the end, a new foot would allow me to be more happy in my day-to-day life."

Wimbledon and the US Open await him. "I don't know what will happen in the future, but I will do everything to continue," he said after the final.

Nadal plays every game in pain, but his ability to achieve miracles seems infinite. Wimbledon is on the horizon... Will anyone still dare to bet against him?
