The holiday season in cinema arrives early with the premiere of Red One, a star-studded film about the rescue of Santa Claus after his kidnapping.
SAVING SANTA 2024
Christmas is still over a month away, but Jake Kasdan has gotten ahead with a film production.
The director is at the helm of Red One, a film that combines classic holiday cinema with over-the-top action.
The film begins with the kidnapping of Santa Claus, whose code name is "RED ONE," meaning someone will have to rescue him.
Coming to his aid are the Head of Security for the North Pole and a bounty hunter with a notorious past.
The film stars major actors such as Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, and J.K. Simmons.
It's unusual for Red One to hit theaters so far ahead of the real Christmas season, but its original release was actually scheduled for 2023.
It couldn’t be released last Christmas due to the actors' union strike that took place this past summer.
Early reviews have labeled it as one of the worst films of the year, in addition to costing over $250 million.
“High-flying boredom,” “disappointingly generic,” and “an overblown and jarring piece of work” are some of the critiques.
We’ll have to wait to see the general public’s reaction to this holiday film with its unconventional storyline. Some families will wait longer before going.
