SON TO

The forward wants a new challenge and Carlo Ancelotti is a fan

MADRID?

South Korea star Heung-min Son is  one of the most talented forwards of the last decade - and could leave current club Tottenham Hotspur.

Last season, he was joint-top scorer in the Premier League, the world’s toughest division. Together with Harry Kane, he’s a leading light at Spurs.

In 35 league games last term, Son scored 23 goals and supplied nine assists - top-drawer stats. This year, though, he’s struggled to get going.

According to German media outlet Sport1, Son is considering his future  at Spurs, as the 30-year-old looks to take the next step in his career.

Carlo Ancelotti is said to be interested in adding him to his Real Madrid team. The major stumbling block is Son's Spurs contract, which runs until 2025.

Son would fetch a fee of €75m to €90m. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is €70m - making him the Premier League’s 16th-priciest player.

In 2019, Son and Spurs lost the UCL final to Liverpool. He’s eager to banish the memories of that defeat and claim a European Cup winners’ medal.

He could nail down a place in Madrid’s team. Benzema’s contract is up in 2023 (though he’ll likely renew), and he’d also compete with Rodrygo/Asensio.

The World Cup is a key shop window for him - but alarm bells are ringing in South Korea after the facial injury he suffered at Marseille last week.

Son is his national team’s main man, and will push hard to make it. If he wants a big move, a good performance in Qatar is important.

Son has scored more than 200 goals in his professional career, and would be a top addition to any major European team. Where will he end up?
