Luis Suárez looks set to join Inter Miami ahead of the 2024 MLS season. In Florida, he’d be reunited with three ex-Barcelona team-mates.

The journalist César Luis Merlo  broke the news that Suárez is to  run down his contract at Brazilian  club Grêmio and move to the US.

Grêmio head coach Renato Gaúcho appears resigned to the striker’s imminent departure, telling reporters: “He already has plans for 2024.”

“I’d like Suárez to stay, but we have  to be honest with our fans. If he  ends up staying, it’ll be a miracle, and  that miracle comes down to him.”

According to Merlo, Suárez will join Inter Miami on a one-year contract, with the option for the Herons to trigger a 12-month extension.

The 36-year-old would team back  up with Lionel Messi, Sergio  Busquets and Jordi Alba. The quartet won a treble together at Barça.

Miami suffered a blow when they missed out on this season’s MLS playoffs, but in 2024 they’ll boast a star-studded side from the get-go.

Suárez, who'd leave Grêmio after his contract expires on 31 December, is poised for his third different league since leaving Atleti. He was also at Nacional in his native Uruguay.

This season, he has registered 20  goals and 16 assists in 47 games  for Grêmio, who remain in contention for the Brazilian league title.

Although set for MLS, he did leave the door open for retirement earlier this year, saying: “I don’t know if I’ll carry on; I’ve got a chronic knee issue.”
