The Ukrainian's goals have helped to  take Girona to the top of LaLiga

Girona have been the revelation of  the season in LaLiga. After beating champions Barça on Sunday, they sit top of the table, with 41 points.

Back in the summer, it was hard to say how Girona would perform, particularly in attack. The Blanquivermells’ front three were all new recruits.

However, the team has gelled  perfectly under head coach Míchel - and striker Artem Dovbyk has  been particularly outstanding.

Signed from Dnipro-1 for around  $9 million, the Ukraine  international arrived at Montilivi as Girona’s club-record signing.

There were high hopes for Dovbyk,  as he had racked up 37 goal contributions (a goal or an assist) in  39 appearances last season.

And the 26-year-old hasn’t disappointed: a starter for Girona since LaLiga matchday five, he has now  scored eight and set up another six.

Currently joint-third in LaLiga’s scoring charts, Dovbyk has been involved in around a third of Girona’s goals in the Spanish top flight this term.

He’s averaging a goal or an assist  every 64 minutes. That’s a better  hit rate than Jude Bellingham,  Kylian Mbappé or Erling Haaland.

The Ukrainian’s game is reminiscent  of Haaland’s: he’s big, strong,  and quick to snap up scoring  chances. He’s a born finisher.

Dovbyk is also a target man who’s  very skilful with ball at feet. He accounts for 34% of Girona’s  touches in the opposition box.
