MAN UNITED'S
'KID MESSI'
The jewel in the crown in United's youth set-up, JJ Gabriel is being compared to Leo Messi
The emergence of youngsters such as Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho is one of the few things Man United fans have to shout about right now.
And United have other exciting prospects rising up the Old Trafford ranks behind them. A notable young gem is Joseph Junior “JJ” Gabriel.
Although Gabriel only recently turned 14, the forward has already been called up to train with the 20-time English champions’ under-18s.
Gabriel hasn’t yet appeared for the under-18s - but he’s used to playing with older prospects. By 13, he was already a regular in the under-16s.
His astonishing levels of talent, allied with a style of play reminiscent of the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, have led him to be dubbed ‘Kid Messi’.
And the teen sensation is also drawing comparisons with a former Barcelona and PSG club-mate of Messi’s, having been described as a ‘mini Neymar’.
Gabriel is a gifted dribbler with exceptional ball skills. What’s more, the youngster is comfortable playing the ball with either foot.
Having spotted Gabriel’s abundant potential, American sportswear giant Nike has signed the United starlet up to an endorsement deal.
At a Hong Kong youth event this summer, he was named player of the tournament, receiving his trophy from ex-United star Dimitar Berbatov.
And despite his young age, he already has over 80,000 followers on Instagram, where has shared photos of Barça ace Lamine Yamal.
