MIKAYIL FAYE

SET FOR BARÇA

The young Senegalese defender is poised to join the LaLiga giants

Centre-back Mikayil Faye, who  plays for Croatian second division  club NK Kustosija, looks set for a  move to LaLiga giants Barcelona.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Faye is to join Barça for a fee of €5 million plus add-ons, with talks over the move at an advanced stage.

Per the media outlet Jijantes, Barça sporting director Mateu Alemany met Faye’s agent, Juanma López, at the club’s training ground earlier this week.

What’s more, the player himself appeared to confirm that a Barça move is imminent when he shared a post by Romano on his Instagram Stories.

The 18-year-old Senegalese is nicknamed ‘the Monster’, because  of his immense physical prowess  and all-action playing style.

At 6ft 1in, Faye is a dominant  aerial presence. Helped by his turn  of pace, he’s also a dogged marker who’s quick into the tackle.

In addition, the left-footed defender is very comfortable in possession. He can carry the ball forward and ping long-range passes to his team-mates.

Faye offers versatility, too. He can operate not only at centre-back, but also at left-back. That would be a major plus for Barça boss Xavi.

Barça aren’t the only club that have targeted Faye. Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have also been keeping close tabs on him in recent months.

He excelled for Senegal at the 2019 U-17 World Cup, where he helped to knock out a Spain team featuring Pedri, who is now set to be his club-mate.
