THE 'DANISH

HAALAND'

Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund is on  Man Utd's radar

Man United boss Erik ten Hag wants  a new striker, and a move for Harry Kane isn’t progressing - so Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as an option.

Dubbed the ‘Danish Haaland’, the  20-year-old Atalanta forward boasts  a real eye for goal and is lightning quick. He runs 100m in 11 seconds.

Hojlund joined Atalanta last summer, and is under contract in Italy  until 2027. As things stand, his market value is estimated at €35 million.

This season, Hojlund registered 16 goals and seven assists in 42 games. His scoring rate was equivalent to a goal every 140 minutes.

He comes from a family of athletes.  His father, Anders, was a soccer player in the Danish league. His mother, Kristen Winther, was a sprinter.

Hojlund’s soccer ability first became clear at age two, when he began playing with a ball on the beach. It was quickly apparent he was left-footed.

His parents built a mini indoor  soccer pitch in the basement of the family’s home. He’d spent his days there with his siblings.

Hojlund also spent a lot of time  playing tennis and badminton, and swimming. He could have been a  pro swimmer, but opted for soccer.

During a 400m running race at  school, a bandage on his finger came loose. He stopped to have his mother retie it - and still won the race.

Hojlund was signed by Copenhagen at 14. He rose to the first team, but fell out of favour and moved first to Austrians Sturm Graz, then to Atalanta.
