Stefan Bajcetic has excelled since breaking into the Reds' team

LIVERPOOL'S

Liverpool’s Spanish midfielder  Stefan Bajcetic, 18, has been  one of the revelations of the  Premier League season.

Since Thiago was ruled out by injury, Bajcetic has established himself as a regular in Jürgen Klopp’s side. He’s started seven of the last nine.

In December’s win at Aston Villa,  he became the second-youngest Spaniard to score in the English top flight, behind only Cesc Fàbregas.

A creative holding midfielder  blessed with exceptional composure, Bajcetic has earned comparisons  with Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets.

He started Liverpool’s Champions League first leg against Real Madrid, and wasn’t intimidated by the stature of the opposition. He impressed.

Team-mates have heaped praise on  the teenager. “Since he started  playing with us, he's our best player, maybe,” Mo Salah said last month.

Reds head coach Klopp has also  lauded Bajcetic’s displays: “We are really happy with him - [he’s] a top  boy, really smart and calm.”

For the player himself, it’s all still sinking in: "When I came off [against Everton], that standing ovation was crazy. My legs were a bit shaky!”

In the summer, Liverpool tied the former Celta Vigo youth teamer down to his first professional  contract. It’s due to run until 2027.

Before his arrival at Anfield, Bajcetic was close to joining Real Madrid. Los Blancos were eager to snap him up, but he opted for a move to England.

He's also eligible for Serbia, so Spain are working hard to persuade him to commit to La Roja. They don't want him to be another Alejandro Garnacho.

Born in Vigo to a Spanish mother, Bajcetic qualifies for Serbia through his father. He’s played for Spain at youth level, but is yet to choose his country.
