THE RACE FOR

West Ham's Declan Rice is one of the  most sought-after midfielders around

RICE

West Ham are resigned to Declan Rice leaving the club. The midfielder is out of contract in 2024, and has rejected three offers of an extension.

According to Sky Sports, Rice has rejected an eight-year contract worth £200,000 - a deal that would make him the club’s highest-paid player ever.

“Declan is going to be a top player,” West Ham boss David Moyes has said. “He’ll be a British transfer record and more whenever he leaves.”

He's set to depart, but his destination remains unclear. Members of England’s ‘big six’ want the 24-year-old, who West Ham value at well over $100m.

Per the Times, Arsenal are readying a summer swoop. After Enzo joined Chelsea and Martín Zubimendi rejected a move, Rice is their top option.

Another player the Gunners like is Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo. In January, the North Londoners signed Chelsea's Jorginho as a low-cost option.

As well as Arsenal, other major Premier League clubs are eyeing Rice. Last summer, West Ham rejected a £100m bid from Manchester United.

Despite signing Enzo, Chelsea remain interested in Rice, too. Liverpool, however, are focused on luring Jude Bellingham to Anfield.

Arsenal lead the Premier League, but they lack a top-class holding midfielder. Manchester City have Rodri, Manchester United have Casemiro…

Together with Bellingham, Rice is a  key cog in England’s engine room. He’s won 39 caps, and was a nailed-on starter at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He’s set to stay in England, but says he's a huge admirer of Real Madrid: "The Madrid home kit, with Beckham on the back [...], I remember having that as a kid. All white... I lived in it."
