Amid fresh links with Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé's future is up in the air once again

END UP?

Amid consistent links to Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé's future has become a regular summer saga - and is hogging the headlines yet again this year.

Mbappé is under contract at PSG  until 2024, with the option of a further year. However, it doesn’t look like  he’s going to trigger that clause.

Indeed, the 24-year-old has written  to the Ligue 1 champions to inform them of his intention not to extend  his deal at the Parc des Princes.

In response, PSG's chairman  recently gave Mbappé an ultimatum: sign new terms within two weeks  or “the door is open” this summer.

The striker therefore has until  19 July to commit his future to  PSG, although L’Équipe reports that  the deadline could stretch to 31st.

A few days earlier, PSG are due to  fly out for a pre-season tour of  Japan, where they’re to face Al-Nassr, Inter Milan and Cerezo Osaka.

It’s rumoured that PSG have  prepared two promotional posters  for their first game in Japan: one  with Mbappé, one without him.

When PSG go to Japan, Madrid are scheduled to travel to the US for their summer tour, which will include a Clásico against Barcelona on 29 July.

Mbappé currently earns €72 million ($80 million) a season at PSG, and has an €80m ($89m) loyalty bonus in his contract that's paid in two instalments.

The first loyalty payment is due on 1 August, with the second on 1 September. He could delay a potential exit so as to receive the first half.

Madrid return from the US on 4 August, before kicking off their LaLiga campaign eight days later. Los Blancos will look to have their squad sorted by then.

PSG will fight to keep Mbappé - but are scoping out alternatives. Victor Osimhen, Harry Kane and João Félix are being linked with the Parisians.
