In 2022, Robert Lewandowski was a marquee signing for Barcelona, costing the Blaugrana €45 million despite being 34 years old at the time.

The Poland striker hit his stride right away at Barça, racking up 33 goals and eight assists in all competitions. He was LaLiga’s top scorer, with 23.

However, this term hasn’t started  so well for Lewandowski or  Barça. The champions are third in  LaLiga, four points off top spot.

At this stage of last season, Barça  were top of the Spanish league and ‘Lewy’ had scored 18 times. This year, he has netted only eight goals.

Lewandowski’s drop-off in form, coupled with Vitor Roque’s planned summer arrival at Barça, has led to rumours that the veteran could leave.

According to TUDN journalist Nico Bravo, there are a number of  franchises in Major League Soccer that would like to sign the forward.

Poland team-mate Karol Swiderski, who plays for Charlotte, has also fuelled US talk: “Maybe he’ll want to go one day to MLS to finish his career”.

Barça almost accepted a bid for Lewandowski in the summer. Saudi side Abha Club offered €150m, but the Catalans ended up turning it down.

The star's Barça deal runs until 2026 and, for now, he's a nailed-on starter. However, there are doubts about how he’s gelled with team-mates.

Most recently, he refused to low-five Lamine Yamal against Alavés, having been angered by the youngster’s  failure to find him with a cross.

If Lewandowski went to MLS, he’d follow in the footsteps of ex-Barça players such as Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Riqui Puig.
