FEAR OF A
NUCLEAR WAR
INDIA VS PAKISTAN
On May 7, India attacked Pakistan in the disputed area of Kashmir in response to a terrorist assault in which 26 tourists were killed.
The Indian attacks targeted air defense systems and radars at various locations inside Pakistan.
In retaliation, Pakistan claimed to have destroyed five Indian fighter jets, a drone and several posts along the LoC.
Pakistani forces also launched missiles that hit cities in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
26 Pakistanis were killed and 46 wounded in the attacks. On the Indian side, 11 soldiers and at least 15 civilians were killed.
Both countries have been mobilizing additional troops and reinforcing their defenses along the Line of Control dividing Kashmir since 1972.
The situation in Kashmir remains very tense, with clashes and ceasefire violations on both sides.
The gravity of the situation has heightened fears of a full-scale conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations.
India has some 172 nuclear warheads. 48 aircraft missiles, 80 ballistic missiles with a range of 5,000 km, 16 on submarines and an additional 28 in storage.
Pakistan has some 169 warheads. 35 aircraft missiles, 126 ballistic missiles with a range of 2,750 km and 8 additional missiles in storage.
