Zoroastrianism is one of the oldest religions in the world. It is monotheistic and was founded by the prophet Zarathustra in ancient Persia between 1500 and 1000 BC.

It is estimated that there are currently between 125,000 and 300,000 Zoroastrians worldwide, mostly in India and Iran.

Their god is Ahura Mazda, creator of the universe and source of all goodness, who is concerned with the life and morality of humans.

Its doctrine was transmitted by oral tradition for centuries until it was transcribed in the Avesta between 224 and 651 AD.

The original book is lost. The current Avesta preserves a compilation of a quarter of the original hymns, rites and teachings.

Followers must use their free will to choose the path of light (Ahura Mazda) or surrender to their own selfishness (Angra Mainyu).

Choosing Ahura Mazda ensures life after death in paradise. Preferring Anfra Mainyu leads to a dark hell after death.

They practice honesty, charity, good thoughts and actions, respect for nature and equality between men and women.

It had a great influence on other monotheistic religions, such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam, which included concepts from Zoroastrianism.

They have been persecuted in Persia from the Arab invasion of the 7th century to the present day. Many fled to India where they are known as Parsis.
